First Wastewater Treatment Plant Biomethane Project in Canada

Burnaby B.C., March 11th 2011 – Greenlane Biogas, a subsidiary of the Flotech Group of companies (founded in 1986), is pleased to confirm that it recently has received an order to build a 10,000 Nm3/day biogas to biomethane 'Rimu' upgrading system for the Woodward wastewater treatment plant, located in Hamilton, Ontario. The renewable natural gas from Greenlane's system will be fed into the local gas utility's natural gas distribution system. Greenlane Biogas uses a water scrubbing process with a downstream adsorption step to ensure the biogas is upgraded to a point where it is fully interchangeable with the natural gas already in the natural gas network. "The experience Greenlane Biogas has gained upgrading biogas derived from wastewater treatment plants in France, Japan, Sweden, and other countries will be applied to this project to ensure a successful installation," said Sean Mezei, President of Greenlane Biogas North America.

The biogas upgrading system is scheduled for delivery to Hamilton this coming fall, with start-up expected shortly afterwards.
